love it wanna make it..

i love this outfit!!!! i wanna try to make it any ideas??

Yoga style jersey skirt..

Here's a tutorial for a jersey skirt with yoga style waist. I made it for my sister in law, and i love how it looks, plus it was very simple and these simple instructions from make it -love it were so clear and elaborate.

First you need a 1.5 yard cloth. Cut around 13 inches wide strip. the length of the strip should be the length of our waist minus a few inches. pin it and check. it should be snug. Also you may want a wider waist yoga thingie , but i liked 13 inches. remember to sew it on the ends to make it a double layered waist band.

Using the rest of the cloth cut two triangles off the side to make a skirt like shape, to make it simple just place a skirt you already have on top of the skirt and cut out an A line shape.  Pin it and Sew it.
Sew the band to the skirt. I dislike gathering because it makes my backside look big so i kept it straight.... i think it looks sleeker and better!
i still have to hem the bottom but im not sure you have to it looks pretty clean as it is... and voila a pretty little comfi skirt...

be kind to thy neighbour..

Ok got the idea from some facebook friends and then my husband found this super cool website about how this Eid you can extend a gift to your neighbor and help them understand that your not some weirdo who wears a towel on her head and lives across the street/hall whatever.

Farah from themuslimhousewife.com has shared what she wrote on her card.

Thanks for being a great neighbor!
Here is a small sweet treat for being a great neighbor. Our religion of Islam holds the neighbor in a special status. The following is a saying of the Prophet Muhammad regarding neighbors…
“The finest in the sight of God is the person who is best to his friends. And the finest in the sight of God is the person who is best to his neighbor.”
Enjoy the baklava!
Your neighbors,
Farah, Ahmed, & Isra
                                                                      Apt #206

I think this is such a great idea to help promote some peace out there, especially where there are tons of people giving Muslims a bad name and also spreading hate. Some guidelines that seem to be popular:

-give something packaged and sealed than baked.
-add a card or explanation.
-go in the morning/afternoon than evening.

This is sure to promote some great dialogue and act as an icebreaker especially if you haven't interacted with your neighbor before .

so what do u guys think ? what other ideas do we have for gifts?

New hijab Styles

Hey guys so i recently discovered two new hijab styles  one from Shea and the other from Suchi and i must say i have tried one of them and im loving it!

I hate pinning under the chin because it leaves marks ( i pin tightly ) and It makes my chin look fat ( yes i'm superficial  :-D ) So when I came across "The Shea Scarf" i had to try it.

Shea from My Amethyst put up her hijab tutorial and I wore it with a long pashmina and OMG, it was light, flowy stayed in place, no mishaps and I loved how I felt in it. It just gives you flare. Here she is with her style. Go check out her how to Shea Scarf  video.

The other one is the Turban scarf, this is more trendy/ for special occasions weddings formal events etc. I haven't tried this one but ill update u guys when i do. Its a bold statement kinda scarf. Plus i gotta figure out the neck coverage. So here's Suchi's tutorial and the link to her website.

DIY jersey necklace

STYLE FRIZZ

I had some left over jersey material from a dress I had bought. Being a petite size I have to snip off the bottoms of most dresses and re-hem them :) yea i know.. So I decided to make a jersey necklace with the leftovers. Here are some ideas I found on Google.
I heart Jeeny's art

I really like the idea of using it as a head piece like the turquoise jersey (top). I also really liked the braid and rosettes in the other pic. Using those inspirations here's what i made.

Ramadan Mubarak!!

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated: I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.

Neck extension

yay! so finally i made my neck extension!! and it looks fabulously cute! it gives you complete coverage! now finally you can wear lacy or deep neck lines with full coverage!

Here it is:

I made the the shoulders a bit wide cause I wanted that full coverage aspect but honestly you can make it as large as you want.

Here's how I made it:
you will need two measurements:
  • from the top of your neck to the bottom.
  • from the end of your neck to the end of your shoulder.

if you don't have tape etc to measure:
just use an old t-shirt or turtleneck to measure out your cloth.

So I used half a yard cloth, it works with stretchy cloth cause the turtle neck stays up else it kinda collapses.

Step 1: Fold the cloth in half, and draw out a small neck line (red line). Cut out the bottom equal tot he measurement from your neck top to bottom. Mine was 5 inches leave one extra inch. Making it 6 inches.

Step 2: hand stitch or using a machine stitch a straight line measuring from your neck to the shoulder mine was 11 inches.

Step 3: Stitch out the three sides of the bottom cloth on the wrong side. Pull out to the right side on the opening shown by the arrow.stitch the opening shut. You should have a circular band.
Step 4: Attach at the neck line by pinning the collar to the neck opening.
Step 5 : try on your neck extension, tighten the turtleneck portion as necessary. make sure not to tighten it to the point where it wont go through your head.
Finished!!! :

Please share your ideas or how to improve this procedure :)

So I really wanted to post this pic up of the yummy dinner I made the past two days. I'm trying to not make fatty food and instead have healthy lean meats with less bread or rice, cause that's too much of a staple in our lives...lol
So here they are:
French Chicken with creamy sauce and Daal ( My husbands favorite )

Baked Salmon with creamy onions and clam chowder... yummm reminds me of SF :)

neckstension..

Some amazing looks I was inspired by was these simple jersey hijabs look by these awesome ladies!!I found this pic on The Hijab Diaries by Aishah Amin . I love her blog, its so cool and I get inspired by the different looks these sisters wear in their photoshoots!
looking at them I'm considering buying the snood at Maysaa website. Its 20 bucks but I dono how much shipping is gonna be cause its traveling quite far..hmm
So why buy when u can make right..Im gonna try my hand at making one for myself :) maybe just the neck portion not the head.
I found the right stretchy cloth its a black navy blue color.
and the instructions I found on  sewing patterns.com the sample they have online are pretty much usable.

so lets see how this project goes. Unfortunately I think ill start working on it on Monday cause were going to a wedding this weekend...
